1/2 cup of butter
4 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup of sugar
1 egg
1 cup of milk (approximately)

Rub the butter into the flour. Add the baking powder, salt, and sugar, then mix well. Beat the egg and add to the milk. Mix the liquid into the dry ingredients to make a manageable dough. Roll to 1-inch thick and cut into rounds with a pastry cutter. Arrange on a lightly floured baking sheet and bake at 420ºF. until risen and brown, approximately 15 minutes. Makes 18 scones.
