Deep Dish Apple Pie

Ingredients:
2 1/2 quarts of sliced apples
(9 to 12 apples)
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of dash of mace
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
3 tablespoons of butter 

Pare and slice apples. Fill an oblong glass baking dish (about 12"x8"x2") with apples. Mix dry ingredients and sprinkle over apples, mixing lightly. Dot with butter. Roll pie crust thin; place on top. Brush crust with cream -- cut slits.  Bake in hot oven at 450ºF. for 15 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350ºF. and cook for 45 minutes longer.
